Renters insurance needed

Fires and thefts can turn a perfect school term into a disaster. Students moving into town homes, apartments, condominiums and campus dormitories this fall should seriously consider purchasing renter's insurance, local insurance agents and University housing officials said...

Last August a fire resulted in the deaths of three students in the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house...

A fraternity resurrected

Questions unanswered about Zeta removal

As the Greek letters emblazoned on the former Zeta Phi Beta Sorority house continue to fade, questions still remain unanswered concerning what specifically merited their removal from the Ole Miss [web/ tickets/ eBay] campus...

The Alpha Tau Omega fraternity was kicked off campus for a year in 2001 for posting a racially-offensive photograph taken at a party on the internet.

University suspends fraternity - Cal's Pi Kappa Phi

A UC Berkeley fraternity (Pi Kappa Phi) whose members hazed a recruit by shooting him at least 30 times with a pellet gun in April can't rush pledges, barbecue with alumni after football games or partake in sorority mixers for a year after it agreed to be suspended in a deal with school officials...

The penalty went further than last year's suspension of Alpha Tau Omega, which was accused of hazing underage pledges with excessive exercise and alcohol, Kenney said. That fraternity was allowed to continue many activities...

Plethora of new Mississippi laws take effect Friday

Another law that took effect when Barbour signed it allows the state Fire Marshal's Office to inspect all fraternity and sorority houses on university campuses and require the installation of smoke and fire detectors...

The inspection law was written in response to a fire last Aug. 27 that killed three students in the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house on the University of Mississippi [web/ tickets/ eBay] campus. The new law raises safety standards of fraternity houses to the level of all other public buildings on campuses...
