Fraternity pageant benefits charity

"We will definitely be having it again and hopefully for years to come. It's for such a good cause." Featuring 20 contestants from Alpha Tau Omega... the event helped raise money for the sorority's national philanthropy, the Children's Miracle Network.

Special awards winners were named first, with ATO senior Nicholas Gregory taking home the "People's Choice" award.

ATO raises money, awareness for Planned Parenthood in Des Moines

Simpson students heart consensual sex, or so the T-shirts say.

Alpha Tau Omega fraternity sold baby blue T-shirts with white lettering reading "I love consensual sex"... All proceeds were donated to the Planned Parenthood on the south side of Des Moines.

Frat Appeals Suspension

The University of Delaware's Alpha Tau Omega fraternity is formally appealing the university's decision to suspend it.

Any appeal will go before the university's appellate board in early April. The fraternity members will be able to stay at their house while the appeal is considered.

Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) was charged with violations of the Statement of Relationship, including having unmonitored doors during what was originally viewed by the administration as an open party on Jan. 22. ATO was not found responsible for violating the policy, which requires all fraternities and sororities to notify the Interfraternity Council or Panhellenic Council, respectively, of parties it plans to host.

Matt McKenzie, Grand Ledge junior and president of ATO, attended the hearing regarding the matter and explained that the gathering was not a planned party. However, the fraternity was accused of and admitted to having open containers of alcohol in common areas of the house, including the first floor and stairwells. This violation resulted in the chapter being placed on social probation for the remainder of the semester...

ATO final fire report: inconclusive

The report from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms is most notable, not for what is says... but what it doesn't say. There's plenty of information here... but plenty more that's been left out, or just plain blacked out.

In all 99 pages of the report, there's hardly a single page without dozens of black marks, marks which mostly omit people's names, but other information as well.

It was supposed to put the final note on last fall's devastating fire at the Alpha Tau Omega house...

Though the lounge collapsed minutes before the event started, fraternity members quickly fixed the problem. Bens, an undeclared freshman and fraternity member, was determined to finish building.

The Isla Vista Recreation and Park District (IVRPD) unanimously voted at its meeting Thursday night to issue a 900 percent permit fee increase for a fraternity's invitational volleyball tournament.

Fraternities' efforts benefit Intersection

Four University of Missouri-Columbia fraternities this fall decided to forgo the usual Homecoming festivities and instead raised money for local youths at risk. Rather than spending money on house decorations, members of Alpha Tau Omega, Beta Theta Pi, Phi Delta Theta and Sigma Pi Epsilon hosted a carnival and raised $17,000 for The Intersection, an independent, not-for-profit agency ...

Forty-eight hours of hard work paid off for all those involved with the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) when the record-breaking total of $4,122,483.65 for pediatric cancer was announced. THON, believed to be the largest student-run philanthropy in the nation, took place Feb. 18 to 20, and with 704 dancers raising money for the Four Diamonds Fund, the event made national news for its staggering numbers and efforts.
